NDP calls for cheaper fares and better service for UP Express riders left out of province’s OneFare program

TORONTO – Official Opposition NDP MPPs are calling for cheaper fares and better service for UP Express riders in their latest legislation.

NDP MPPs Jessica Bell (University – Rosedale), Bhutila Karpoche (Parkdale – High Park), and Tom Rakocevic (Humber River – Black Creek) were joined by local transit riders and airport workers who rely on UP Express but are left out of the government’s OneFare program.

“Ontarians deserve convenient transit they can rely on,” said Bell. “Commuters in the west end need peace of mind from fare integration and more frequent service. This is why, we’re calling on the government to include UP Express in their fare integration program.”

“Thousands in my riding depend on UP Express as part of their daily transit and connect to TTC to get to work and downtown,” said Karpoche. “We need cheaper fares, reliable and frequent service so that west-end commuters can finally have the same peace of mind as the rest of the GTA.”

“I’m looking forward to working across the aisle to make commutes more convenient for transit riders in my community and across the GTA,” said Rakocevic. “I urge the government to listen to the riders and west-end communities who are already underserved by transit."
